Our earliest gospel of Mark implies that Jesus left the Galilee and headed for Jerusalem for Passover in the Spring a few weeks before his death. Based on additional textual sources and geographical references it appears he traveled to the Mt Herman area in the far north, then spent his last Winter in hiding outside the territory of either Herod Antipus or Philip the Tetrarch–in the Decapolis. This video includes a bonus at the end with original footage made in the 1990s when I traveled to Jordan to investigate this area–he has been back now five different times doing archaeological surveys of the caves and environment. It connects to Pella, and the tradition that the Jewish Nazarenes fled to the same area in 66 CE when the Roman revolt broke out.
