I made it to Jerusalem last night for two precious days in my favorite city in the world with an open schedule! I chose a modest hotel room in the Old City, not far from Jaffa Gate, one of those structures built in the 1800s. My room is on the top, with the dome you see my ceiling. It is very simple…just what I need for this trip. Usually when I come it is filming, doing archaeology, leading my students, leading a tour–but these two days I am free and have some important new research to pursue, the results of which I will be sharing as time goes on. This is my 75th trip to Jerusalem. And it might turn out to be one of the most significant.
