FIRST: I want to strongly recommend the upcoming 8-lecture on-line course that Bart Ehrman is offering “The Bible and the Quran: Comparing Their Historical Problems,” which you can watch live Sat & Sun May 4th and 5th. See link below for full details and how to sign up.

I know all of you are keenly interested in the historical problems and challenges of Biblical Studies–but what about Islam? We hear so much about Muslim fundamentalism–but what do historians of religion say about Islam–what do we really know about the historical Mohammed, or the formation of the book known as the Koran? How do the historical issues compare with that of the Bible? Talk about fascinating! I have signed up myself.I can’t wait!

If you can’t make it live you can watch it anytime and you will own the course for life. Bart is is teaming up with the extraordinary scholar of Islam, Dr. Javad Hashmi. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed. If you decide to sign up, please use this link–which let’s Bart know that “James” sent you:

SECOND: As previously noted here on my blog…

Bart Ehrman and I are collaborating on a special charity event to which I want to invite you all. We will be discussing the topic “WHY Prophecy Fails,” in a special webinar on May 6th at 7:30PM EST. All donations–and that means every penny, goes to relief efforts in Sudan–where the monumental suffering of hundreds of thousands has gotten little media attention given the wars in the Ukraine and Gaza.

Our topic is a fascinating one. Not “When” but WHY interpretations of Bible Prophecy regarding the “End of the Age,” have a 100% failure rate! As many of you know, I have worked on this topic for decades, from the Dead Sea Scrolls to Waco, as well as popular “Prophecy Belief” today among evangelical Christians.

Bart Ehrman’s recent book: Armageddon: What the Bible Really Says About the End, is a great take on his understanding of this phenomenon. Both of us grew up in evangelical circles in which such matters were hot topics–going back to Hal Lindsey, The Late Great Planet Earth, in the 1970s–and a host of other books. Youtube is literally FLOODED (to use an apocalyptic image), with the latest views and interpretations of what is going on in the Middle East–and what “most assuredly” is ahead–at least according to countless proposals of the End Times.

We are asking for a donation of $20 to attend–but we know many will want to give more than that–if so PLEASE DO. The donation is fully tax deductible. If you can’t afford the $20, let us know and we’ll cut you a deal or let you in for free.

To make your donation, please go to https://www.ehrmanblog.org/, then just scroll to the bottom, and click on Donate to Help (you can then choose Stripe with a card or Paypal). To indicate that this is a Sudan fundraiser donation, please end it in $.01, as in, $20.01. (If you forget, don’t worry, just send an email to: ehrmanblog@gmail.com. You will receive the Zoom Link for the event in 24 – 48 hours.

Dutch doctor Jiske Steensma examines a patient. Working in the camp, she says, “has really high highs and deep lows, but I’m happy to be here.”
