Searching for the Wrong “Ark” in all the Wrong Places

I posted this some months ago but we have many new people joining this Blog Community, and for those who remember it I wanted to call you attention to it again. This is a long, very informal study of what traditions we can trace in the Torah about the “Box,” that held what is called in Hebrew the ‘Edut [הָעדֻ֑ת, or the Testimony–that is the so-called “Ten Commandments” (lit. “Ten Words” or “Ten Matters”). The more familiar term “Ark of the Covenant” is used consistently in Deuteronomy and associated traditions.

Building off the post yesterday with the interview with Idan Dershowitz on the Shapira Scroll, I wanted to suggest the idea some of you have heard me talk about before–our focus should be on the eastern shores of the Dead Sea–not the Western–which has been so thoroughly scoured, including my own time there surveying the caves from Evan Bohan to Ein Gedi in the winter of 1992.

I have delayed plans to continue my previous research in Jordan, with my focus on “The Jesus Hideout” in Jordan, and my Biblical Archaeology Society lecture this November titled “Jesus Across the Jordan,” see program here: https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/travel-study/27th-annual-fall-bible-and-archaeology-fest/. I would love to see some of you there face to face, check it out. I was also planning a tour until the October 7th War broke out. But in the future, the EAST will be my focus, on several projects. Check out the Hideout Video and I think you will be hooked!

I could have well titled this post “Go EAST Young Man, Go East!
