Crossan & Tabor: A New Quest for the Historical Mother Mary

I thank Derek Lambert, host of the Youtube channel  @MythVisionPodcast, for moderating this discussion between the illustrious Dr. John Dominick Crossan, perhaps the best known “historical Jesus” scholar in the world, and me, focusing on my latest book, The Lost Mary: Rediscovering the Mother of Jesus.

It was such a pleasure to spend this time with “Dom” as his friends affectional call him–based on his middle name “Dominick,” as he cruises into his 90s, sharp–maybe even “sharper,” than ever–with the deep insight and wisdom that comes with his years of study and thinking.   Dom and I agree and disagree on various points in historical Jesus studies, but on Mary its seems we find some really common ground. Such conversations are rare, it seems Debates and Arguments are preferred by so many who navigate the vast sea of YouTube materials on New Testament and early Christian materials. I think you will find this discussion quite refreshing. Please leave your comments, I do read them all.

Dom’s endorsement of my book is truly appreciated:

“Mary mother of Jesus, perhaps the most poorly-understood person who ever lived, could not find a better modern interpreter than James Tabor, whose life-long training in both archaeology and textual studies has given him the keys to, for the first time, constructing a convincing portrayal of this enigmatic figure.”

Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies
