This is a more public version of a lecture I presented last month to those in my on-line course, “Christianity Before Paul.” The Ten recorded topics/lectures in the course are supplemented by monthly Zoom meetings in which we explore aspects of the Mary-John-Jesus-Mary Magdalene-James movement more in depth. In this slide-illustrated lecture I present a lost, forgotten, and repudiated, view of the central role of women in the that movement. As the centuries passed, the developing Christian orthodoxy unfortunately lost this perspective and in many ways went in opposite directions, in which women were viewed in the most negative ways, as was common in the culture of the time.
